In 2014, Wholesome Wave Georgia began an initiative to get more farmers markets and farmers accepting SNAP in Georgia. Approximately 20 cents of every SNAP dollar spent on food goes directly to American farmers. Installing wireless technology that accepts SNAP at area farmers markets expands the customer base for these markets and increases the local share of the SNAP dollar back into the community. Through a partnership with the USDA and Financial Transaction Management, WWG helps markets and farmers get authorized to accept SNAP and set-up with the appropriate wireless technology to accept SNAP.
