Enhancing Economic Stability for Seniors Through Pet Support.
Pets provide companionship, reduce stress, and improve well-being, especially for Older Adults. However, pet care costs can be a burden—over 55% of adults aged 50 to 80 own pets, and nearly 18% struggle with expenses.
To ease this financial strain, Wholesome Wave Georgia (WWG) partnered with the Atlanta Humane Society to provide limited free dog and cat food to the residents we work with. This initiative supports aging in place with an economic stability lens, with hopes of helping older adults enjoy the emotional and physical benefits of pet companionship.
Through the Atlanta Humane Society’s Senior Pet Food Program, human service agencies in metro Atlanta receive donated pet food to distribute to Older Adults in need. By removing the cost of pet food, we’re ensuring older adults can keep their pets without financial issues.
