What is Wholesome Wave Georgia’s Fresh for Less program?

WWG’s Fresh for Less promotes healthy and affordable eating habits by doubling or matching SNAP spending on local fruits, vegetables, and edible plants. That means your SNAP spending goes twice as far! Our 2023 Customer Survey shows that WWG Fresh For Less helped 80% of shoppers increase their daily servings of fresh fruits and vegetables.

This program supports local farmers and contributes to the state’s food economy – more than $6.36 million since 2009. By encouraging shoppers at local farmers markets, the WWG Fresh For Less program makes healthy, nourishing choices affordable for low-income families and brings a new customer base to local farmers.

WWG Fresh for Less is rooted in Wholesome Wave Georgia’s mission to make fresh, healthy, local food affordable for all Georgians.

AT A GLANCE

U.S. food prices rose by 23.6 percent from 2020 to 2024. In 2024, 1.1 million Georgians didn’t have enough food to eat for two weeks in a row.

As a response, Wholesome Wave Georgia (WWG) deploys the Fresh for Less program to combat rising food prices & food insecurity, and to support local farmers.

Our 2023 Customer Survey shows that the WWG Fresh For Less helped 80% of shoppers increase their daily servings of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Since 2009, the Fresh for Less program has contributed a total economic impact of $6.27 million dollars toward small local food retailer communities.

Network Gathering and Trainings

Every year, Wholesome Wave Georgia convenes the Fresh for Less network for a full day of training, networking, and problem solving. As the largest gathering of farmers market managers in the state of Georgia, this unique opportunity is the ideal space to share best practices related to Wholesome Wave Georgia Fresh for Less facilitation, SNAP customer engagement, and general farmers market operations.

While our Wholesome Wave Georgia Fresh for Less Network Gathering is exclusively for active facilitators of the program, Wholesome Wave Georgia hosts multiple training opportunities open to those beyond our immediate network – such as farmers who vend at farmers markets in the Fresh for Less network. To learn more about scheduling a partner training, email Abigail or check your Weekly Partner Bulletin.
